Frequently Asked Questions
In this section, you'll find the frequently asked questions.
I hope this addresses any enquiries you may have about classes and sessions.
What style of yoga is it that you do?
Core Flow or Hatha Flow - Are my main styles of yoga. A medium paced hatha flow style class with a blend of active movements, longer holds for strength and balance, Pilates core work, neuro-fitness and nerve flossing / gliding exercises, all with the breath as the vital link throughout. Designed to offer a little challenge and empower you, whilst quietening the mind. Often themed around the seasons, elements or working on certain areas of the body.
A reasonable level of fitness or mobility is required for the hatha/core flow classes (i.e. to be able to get up and down off the floor fairly easily). A more detailed description can be found here
I have an injury, illness or feel a bit unfit that stops me doing certain things, can I still join?
Yes, everything can be modified but best to contact first or better still, to fill in the online health form here and I can advise.
How long are classes?
Most of my classes are traditional 90 minute classes, except for chair yoga which is 75 minutes, Zumba which is 55 and Yin which is 95. If you can only do an hour, that is fine! Just let Vernette know beforehand and she'll include a break within the sequence, where it's a good time that you can leave.

What is yoga? Where does it come from?
Yoga is an invaluable gift that our ancestors have given us. Yoga embodies unity of mind, body, breath; a holistic approach to health and well being. Click above to learn the history and origins of yoga. Check out the resources, articles and blog pages to find out how Yoga helped Vernette and how it can help you too!
MEN! also check it out to find out why yoga is not just for women!
What makes a great teacher?
Two answers from two of my teachers:
“A great yoga teacher embodies the qualities of humility, integrity, patience, knowledge and humour. They are on the path, working on themselves, so they can be a lighthouse for consciousness.” Katy Appleton (appleyoga.com)
“A good yoga teacher is a practitioner not a performer. Always have the time to help, adjust or give instruction in breath work as well as asana and remembers to get off the mat. A great teacher needs the eye, the hand, and most importantly, the heart.” Anne-Marie Newland (sun-power-yoga.co.uk)
"A good teacher remains a student."
How can I book a 1:1?

What do I need to know before class?
In Person Class Information & Etiquette
-
Please, do NOT DROP-IN, classes are by BOOKING ONLY so please enquire first and fill in ParQ (health/waiver) form here - thank you.
-
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND with ANY illness, especially COVID / cough / cold symptoms. You will be refused participation if you turn up clearly ill and will lose your booking payment. It's just not fair on those near you and the instructor.
-
YOGA CLASS INFO - Bring your own proper sticky, non slip yoga mat, chunky yoga brick, strap, water and blanket for relaxation if you have them. If you would prefer no hands on assists or close up guidance, please let the instructor know via email prior to class or privately at the start of class.
-
Clothing - Bring extra layers in spring /autumn / winter as some halls can be a bit chilly. The heating is often off from May to October, although I have my own heaters, it's still wise to layer up. Please wear, comfortable, moveable (decent) clothing, that protects your modesty and respects others! (ie no loose short shorts and no see through cycling shorts.....please!!) If you become pregnant Please tell Vernette BEFORE attending class as it may not be wise to continue practice, especially in the first trimester. Classes are not designed with pregnancy in mind but can be modified if already have an established practice.
-
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. Entering classes late is disturbing to others. If you do arrive a few minutes late, please make sure that you enter as slowly and quietly as you can.
-
At some venues, the doors will be shut at class start time so you won't get in if late.
-
Entry to halls is 15 minutes prior to class start time.
-
Practice on an empty stomach. It is recommended that you do not eat a heavy meal at least three hours before practice. A light meal is okay 1-2 hours beforehand.
-
Please help preserve the peace and be sure to turn off your mobile phone before entering the class so that its quiet and the bluetooth off as the class maybe streamed live and it interferes with the mic headset.
-
Although all classes are open, all abilities, a reasonable level of fitness or mobility is required for some of the classes as they are fairly active, flowing hatha yoga, including slow to medium paced flowing movements as well as some holding postures. If you can get up and down off the floor with relative ease, you'll be ok in the hatha flow classes, otherwie chair yoga, yin yoga or yogalates may be more suitable if you want or need the class to be on one level.
Is there anything I need to know before doing Zumba?
ZUMBA CLASS INFO -
Bring water and towel as you may get sweaty! To protect your knees, it's advisable to wear shoes or sneakers that don't have too much tread such as flexible soled plimsoles, pumps, dance shoes, cross training shoes are better. If running trainers are all you have, be careful to keep steps quite small.
